Made For More

Pastor Dustin Leek   -

Over the last several weeks at FCC, we have been going through the book of Ephesians, and so far, we have made it through chapter 2! As I have been studying this letter of Paul to a group of believers, I have found much encouragement and conviction. One of the things that caught my attention early on in this letter comes in the first chapter in verse 17.

17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

Paul prays for this group of followers of Christ who are living out their faith, that they will know Christ better. He goes on to pray that hearts be enlightened and revelation may come to the hope and power that we have as followers of Christ.

I have been thinking about this prayer of Paul, and it has challenged me, I pray that it challenges all of us who are believers in Christ.  Most of us probably have a lot of knowledge about Christ; we read our Bibles and attend Church. These are great things that are of the utmost importance, but do we really know Him? Are we allowing Christ and our relationship with him to change who we are? Are we experiencing His power in our life as we step out in faith?

Paul reminds us in chapter 2 of our past condition that before Christ, we were dead in our sin without hope, but in Chapter 2:4, “But God”, but God, in his mercy and grace made us alive in Christ. If you know Jesus as your Savior, you are made alive, you have a purpose, and you are meant as Paul teaches, to do good works. I think sometimes, as Christians, we forget that we are alive, and we get trapped in the day-to-day routine that we forget we are made for more!

The church (body of believers) is powerful. God has chosen the church to spread the Gospel and lead people into a relationship with him. My prayer is that as believers, we know God more, not just head knowledge but know him more by trusting him, stepping out in faith, experiencing Him, and realizing we are made for more than just surviving this world; we are made new to help change the world for Christ.

There is a song called “Made For More” by Josh Baldwin; it is one that I have been listening to a lot lately. It pairs well with what Paul is teaching us in Ephesians; as believers, most of us are living good lives for Christ like the Ephesians, but there is more. We were made for more, and we have the power to do more! Church, let’s realize we are made for more than just surviving, and let’s live in the power of Christ!
